- 25 Jan 1876, at 10am in the town of Torre del Greco, is dead Luigi Masucci, age 14, farmer, residente di passaggio in Torre del Greco, born in Avellino, residing in Volturara Irpina, of Giovanni and Maddalena Raimo, both farmers residing in Avellino.

residente di passaggio - means what??

"residente di passaggio" seems to be a contradiction in terms. "Residente" means stably living in some place; "di passaggio" means "occasionally travelling thru a place". I think in this case they mean "occasionally living in this place for a short time".

i was wondering if maybe it meant that he died while traveling through the town OR if maybe he was working there temporarily.

Owing to such apparent contradiction, I wouldn't be able to tell you; I'd say "he was working there temporarily", but I can't be sure.

i understand there is no way of knowing for certain given the contradiction in terms.
