These look like Clement's immigration records. Age looks about right. Though the given name appears as Cleomene, people who checked in the immigrants often made phonetic attempts at spelling.

Aaron, here are two links that talk about foundlings, their method of surrender, and the lives one could expect them to lead in foundling homes. Generally, a foundling is an infant/child that is abandoned by its parent(s), either because the child was born out-of-wedlock or because the parents were too poor to care for the child. Sometimes, a child surrendered because of a family's difficult circumstances might be reclaimed when times were better, but not always. Marty is telling you that the child was surrendered, but the birthparents' names were unknown. And perhaps, the gentleman who is listed as Clement's father is really his adoptive father. When Marty comes back on the board, I'm sure he will tell you more of his findings.

On his second marriage record to Benilde C Catozzi it says Clemente was born in Pisa I searched through Pisa birth records 1873-1876 and found that POSSIBLE BIRTH RECORD in 1874
On the first marriage it listed his father as Yacopo Bertini different surname possible foster father

Death certificate of Clara and Clement's son...lived a very nice long life.
If you go into FamilySearch.org and search on the names of your ancestors, you will find more information on this son and his family. Each time you find a new name, verify it (by assessing whether the names and dates that surround it are reasonable), then slowly trace your way.

As for the foundling question you have asked, I recommend doing a Google search on foundlings in Italy during that time period, perhaps too in the location you are interested in. There are some papers and books pertaining to that subject. You will learn that the practice of surrendering foundlings was fairly common, that a very, very large number of the foundlings died in care, that the women who gave birth to them often volunteered to nurse (sometimes given payment) but were not allowed to nurse the child they had given birth to, and that some unscrupulous men married the nursing women, not because they loved them, but because they wanted the money they received. Then, when the woman stopped nursing, the men would abandon them. In some instances, the family that felt it could not afford to take care of the child, would surrender it to a foundling home, then volunteer to foster with stipend. I read that sometimes too the child's date of birth would be recorded as the date surrendered. I have read that there were at least 3 foundling homes/hospitals in the Pisa area. This would be a very interesting chapter of your family's history to pursue. Foundlings, whose parentage was "unknown" would be given names by the foundling homes. These names would often reflect the fact that they were abandoned. The names varied by the home and region. Click on this link and scroll down.
