Silvestro Mariorenzi 16 February 1854

Post by James Graham »

I have been searching for Silvestro for awhile as he was listed on my grandfathers arrival record to the USA in 1921.

I have come across his birth:
https://familysearch.org/photos/images/ ... c=DOCUMENT
His death:
https://familysearch.org/photos/images/ ... c=DOCUMENT
What I believe is his headstone:
http://findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?pa ... 61&df=all&

Written record has his wife as Teresa Romanelli, birth may be 1864 and marriage to Silvestro may be in Italy
Written record of children of Thomas, Joseph, Rosalia, Angela, Maria, Concetta supposedly born in the United States

I have looked through Ancestry and FamilySearch but now am at a stand still.
Any clues?

Try with the last name Morenzi.
I have Morenzi's in my family that were originally Mariorenzi.

These links are him, thanks.
I would not have guessed the last name change.

Now that I have been able to put it together, is there a chance this is his wife?
It is the only arrival record I can find for either.

Here is the manifest/ship information for the arrival you posted...

http://aad.archives.gov/aad/record-deta ... &rid=32548

The date of arrival is 1897 - and the passenger Teresa Romanelli is age 22...
making her date of birth about 1875.

That is pretty close to the Teresa/Theresa in the 1920 Census (age 43, DOB approx. 1877)

****EDIT TO ADD****

Unfortunately, I do not think the above manifest is for your Teresa :-(
Here is the image of the manifest on Ancestry - Date 23 June 1897 - actual arrival is New York, Ship is Scindia, and she is traveling with her husband and 6 year old son....
Name: Teresa Romanelli
Arrival Date: 23 Jun 1897
Birth Date: abt 1875
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Ethnicity/ Nationality: Italian
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Scindia
http://interactive.ancestry.com/7488/NY ... turnRecord

I believe this one is the correct manifest - in 1900 on the Tartar Prince
Traveling as Maria Romanelli, age 21, with her son Luigi, age 6.
Their destination is Providence, Rhode Island, to her "husband Mariorenzi Providence"
Last place of residence was Monticelli...

Name: Marice Romanelli
[Maria Romanelli]
Arrival Date: 27 Nov 1900
Birth Date: abt 1879
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Ethnicity/ Nationality: Italian
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Tartar Prince

http://interactive.ancestry.com/7488/NY ... turnRecord

The son, Luigi, appears to have died at a young age...

Luigi Mariorenzi
Rhode Island, Deaths and Burials
Name Luigi Mariorenzi
Gender Male
Death Date 20 Jun 1909
Death Place Rhode Island

Age 16
Birth Date 1893
Father's Name Silvestro Mariorenzi
Mother's Name Maria Teresa

Here is an interesting 1935 Rhode Island Census for Rocco Mariorenzi...
age 75, date of birth 22 Dec 1864
He lives in Cranston at 12 Adie St.
He is a widower.
You can move through the images of the cards and see other Mariorenzi - possibly his children?

Thats makes sense that the second is closer. But could they both be her?

The record for Silvestro above states his arrival was 1896. On the same census Teresa is listed as arriving in 1897.

The second has to be her as the last name, Mariorenzi and comune of Monticelli are correct.

I have run across this Rocco before. I don't believe him to be related or the others in the other cards.

The 1897 arrival that you posted has Teresa Romanelli, age 22, traveling with her husband Giovanni Munier (age 23), and her son Salvatore Munier (age 6). It looks like they are from Napoli...

OK. I see the bracket on the left relating Teresa to a Giovanni.
Thanks.

And I see that Maria and Luigi have never been in the USA before this visit in 1900.
