Similarities between surnames (de.. di.. nospace.. caps or not)

I have a question about similar surnames. Do they derive from the same source? Are they just the result of misspelling errors in the past?

For example i bring my surname: Di Candia.
There are several variations of this surname: De Candia, Dicandia, Decandia, di Candia and even only "Candia". I even found a french version: De Candie.

As you can see they are very similar. Am i correct to believe that these are almost the same? That we come from the same source/sources?
Even now, when i dictate my surname, people happen to misspell it and they would write it wrongly if i don't correct them. I guess that this kind of situation should have happened in the past lots of times, especially when people were more ignorant.

Welcome to IG website a lot of that is misspelling through records but some of the de and di could be from the town they where from distinguishing the Candia with same first names of the father and sons in different branch lines of the family

Thank you both! So should i suppose that "Candia" is the father of all the other surnames?

Also, Candia was the name of the capital of Crete, in Greece, and there was the "kingdom of Candia" ruled by italians from Venice. The Duke of Candia was called "Giacomo Tiepolo", named in italian "Duca di Candia" (duke of Candia). Is it feasible that the "D/di Candia" surname is just a nickname derived from this duke? Is it possible that my surname derives from "Tiepolo"? Or is it just derived from someone that lived in the kingdom of Candia?

Wow.. it says that it derives from the Arabs!

I found a wiki page (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candia_(famiglia)) that says that Candie and Candia are the same families and this page (http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k365890/f396.image) actually calls many members of the main (Candie) family with the "de". So can i suppose that all these surnames (Candia/e, D/di/e Candia/e and the spaceless versions) are from the same family?

but it says that the family is extinct.. so now i'm a bit confused.
