Looking on the LDS family search site I see there are only 10 people named Borrino listed. Does this mean that the LDS has only transcribed partially the Italian records as there surely must be more Borrino's?
Does anyone know to what extent the LDS covers?

Hi Joyce,

Did you know that there is a query on Ancestry Message boards (Apulia [Puglia], General board) requesting info about an Anthony Borrino who arrived in England 1870? Request by Karon Phazey.

The records you are viewing are only for people that have been submitted by members of LDS. LDS does not trancribe records. They film records around the world. These films can be order through your local LDS-Family History Center.

I've been volunteering at my local Family History Center for the last 6 years. I wrote the paper below for our FHC and we give it out to our Patrons so that they will understand what the FamilySearch.org has to offer. I hope this information below will help you too understand what the FamilySearch.org is all about.

And when you state there are only 10 people named Borrino listed, is that on the IGI Files or the Pedigree Charts? Both IGI Files and Pedigree Charts are explained below.

I’ll break down each category. I’ll start with the easiest ones first.

1. Vital Records for Scandinavian Countries and Mexico

a. This is web site are the Vital Records that The Church of Jesus
Christ of the Latter-Day Saints have extracted so far into their
computer systems on the Scandinavian Countries and Mexico.

b. Just type in the surname, click search, and see if there are any
records for your ancestors from those areas.


2. Census Records

a. The Census Records are only for the following years and Countries:
1880 US Census
1881 British Census
1881 Canadian Census

b. It is only the Index for those years, you would need Ancestry.com
to view the original document.


3. Social Security Death Index (SSDI)

a. I think this one is self explanatory. It is the Death Index from Social
Security.


4. Ancestral File

a. This is a collection of millions of names from throughout the world
that are organized into family groups and pedigrees.

b. Ancestral File also contains the names and addresses of those who
contributed to the file so that you can coordinate further research
with them.

c. Information in this file can be copied onto disks and used with a
number of genealogical computer programs, saving you hours of
retyping.


5. International Genealogical Index (IGI)

a. This is an index of Temple Ordinances that have been completed by
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of their
deceased ancestors.

b. You can check this index to see if an ordinance has already been
completed on your ancestor.

c. The index is a valuable genealogical resource. It contains: names,
dates, places of birth, christening, or marriage.


6. Pedigree Charts

a. These are Pedigree Charts that are submitted to the Main Family
History Center in Salt Lake City.

b. They can be submitted by both members and non-members.

c. A good idea for everyone is to submit your Pedigree Charts for The
Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints will put it online as well as
preserve it forever.


7. Family Search Library Catalog

a. This catalog describes the records, books, and microfilms in the
Family History Library’s collection.

b. It’s available and searchable online as well as you can use the disks
at your local Family History Center. The most updated information
is online.

c. How to use the Family Search Library Catalog is described in detail
on the Genealogy Section under “How to Obtain Microfilm from the
Family History Centerâ€Â

Hi Trish
Thank you - very kind of you to put all that info on for me. When I first used the IGI probably 15 or more years ago I was told that all pre 1837 records were going on it, obviously this was incorrect. So unless someone who is a member of the LDS or someone who sends in their pedigree then I will not find information on the IGI?
There is so much more info available on-line in the US than England. I presume that Italy has even less than England so therefore the only way to find information is knowing exactly the town the ancestors came from and either write to them or go personally. Do you think I am correct in this assumption?
