Familes from Torre de' Passeri

Post by acman319 »

Hi. I'm new to this site and I was wondering if anybody has any information about familes from the commune of Torre de' Passeri in the Pesacra provience in Abruzzo. Speciffically, I'm looking for information on the surname "Cappola".

from acman on another thread:
"Where did you find information on Maria Cappola? My paternal great-grandmother's name was Maria Cappola (after she was married to my paternal great-grandfather, Giuseppe Cappola). But they were from Torre de' Passeri in Abruzzo. My grandfather knows all about his family's history in Italy, and this is what he has told me: his brother Giovanni (John) Cappola was born in Torre de' Passeri, but my grandfather was born in the United States in 1924. So his parents must have come over before 1924, and I know that some of his [my grandfather's] relatives came to the US through Canada. I have recently found a company in Toronto, Canada called Cappola Foods and their website (Cappola Foods), has a little Cappola family history on it. Is this enough information to help me in my geneaology search? I made a thread specifically for this topic of the Cappola surname. To find it, just search "Torre de' Passeri" in the thread search and look for my name "acman319" under the poster names"

acman,
a little more info would help:
town(s) in US where your family settled
your father's first name
etc
OK?

I currently live in Lockport, NY near Buffalo. I have lived here all my life and so have my parents and grandparents. My great-grandparents, both paternal and maternal, settled in Lockport from Italy. My paternal grandfather parents came from Torre de' Passeri, Abruzzo and my paternal grandmother's parents came from Villa San Giuseppe, Calabria. My maternal great-grandparents came grom Palermo, Sicily. They all settled in Lockport, NY and I know they all came through Ellis Island because my paternal grandmother's parents last name was changed from Scopoliti to Scapelliti. My paternal grandmother's sister was born in 1913 in Calabria and came to the US when she was 9 years old. I will have to ask her sometime soon for more information.

Hi acman!
Glad we got a good start for you!
I have a subscription to ancestry.com where I found you great uncle John living in Lockport with his father Joe & mother Mary & siblings on the 1930 census.
I used the census immigration info to search for your great grandfather Giuseppe on Ellis Island (using a 'sounds-like' search for Cappola).
Ellis Island is a free resource. http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB ... close&LNM=
You can access ancestry.com at a local Family History Center.
The family History Center can also order microfilm records (in Italian) for your towns in Italy.
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

There are a lot of experts here ready to help with any questions you may have!
Would you like more ancestry records?
Help with manifests?
Research helps? (websites)
Anything else?

Thanks again. But about that website www.jewishgen.org, I'm not Jewish and neither is any of my family members. We are all Roman Catholic and so were the relatives. Does that website only search for people who were/are Jewish or not? I also would like to know where I could get a photo of the S.S. Patria. Thanks. Again, you can e-mail me at acman319@yahoo.com with any information that may contain files too large for a forum.

Hi,

Vj has a good handle on providing US records for your Cappola family, so since she is on rolling, will let her go at it!

If you are interested in tracing the family in Torre de' Passeri, the LDS Church (Mormans) have filmed the civil/vital records fot this town for the years 1809 thru 1910. Here is a link to the available films.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... ato+civile++

A lnik to locate your nearest LDS-Family History Center.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

And one to our member Trish's "how to obtain the films."

Hope this helps,
