Trace Maternal Great Grandfather

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Trace Maternal Great Grandfather

Post by ohanlon »

I am trying to find any information regarding my great grandfather Oreste Castagnari born 1868/1869 and died in England on 5th Feb 1932 aged 64years I believe he was born somewhere in Florence precise location unknown. He came to England when he was 18 and his occupation was listed as waiter on my grandmothers wedding certificate. I believe that Castagnari's originate from the regions of Lazio, Emilia Romana and Perugia. Could anyone give me some advice or point me in the right direction as to what i can do next?

Hi Nuccia
Thanks for the reply. This is my great grandfather and all the children listed are my grandmothers brothers and sisters, some of which died at a very young age. I noticed he is listed as a foreign subject, i now need to find out how i go about finding out how he came into this country. I am doing this on behalf of my father who would love to find out his roots. Any advice greatfully received.
