First mtDNA results...

Genetic genealogy is the application of genetics to traditional genealogy. Genetic genealogy involves the use of genealogical DNA testing to determine the level and type of the genetic relationship between individuals.

First mtDNA results...

Post by bmorocco »

I just got the first results from FT DNA. I am doing the FULL mtDNA and the Y-111. Still waiting on the Y.

mtDNA is reporting H7, but I am not sure how I can determine the "subclades." I admit I am just exploring the EUPEDIA site.

But I guess what I want to know if which of the several FamilyTree results pages have the most meat on the bone? I am trying to learn ONLY from their Help pages... but they are very trim and I start to feel like I'm on a double-talk carousel.
Should I focus most on the MUTATIONS page which lists differences from the Cambridge norm?
I only have one MATCH listed due to the mtDNA.

Maybe what I am asking for is a good intro textbook?

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!

Names in my family I'm working on: Muraca, Moraca, Santelli, Tolone, Patituccio, Castelucci, Grandinetti

However, I suppose my question is, which of the several FamilyTree result pages has the greatest meat on the bone? I'm attempting to learn all I can from their Help pages, but they're quite condensed, and I start to feel like I'm riding a double-talk loop.

Yes, focusing on the Mutations page is important because it shows how your mtDNA differs from the Cambridge Reference Sequence (CRS). These mutations can help refine your haplogroup and determine your exact subclade.
