I am looking for family members living in Monreale, Sicily,

Post by Lagunasuz »

I am looking for family members that came from Monreale, Sicily with the surname Piro, first name Vincenzo, his wife's name was Angelina Tumminello, they left out of Palermo on the SS Massiha September 1903 and arrived New Orleans October 1903, they came with a friend Pietro Marino Decatur. Any help would be well appreciated.
Thank You,
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

Are you interested in just connecting with relatives or are you interested in tracing your Piro family :?:

Thank you for the information, I will write them and hopefully they will be able to read English. The members that came on the boat were Vincenzo, Angela, Francesca, Benedetto, Maria, Lucia, and Carmela - Father, Mother, 4 sisters and one brother.
Thank You,
Suzanne

I am interested in connecting with relatives and tracing the Piro family. There was a name change in our family and my two sisters and I are trying to trace our fathers side of the family - the Piro side.
Thank You for all your help,
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

First, when writing to Italy, all letters should be in Italian. Here is a link to a form letter to a potentiial relative.

The 1903 ship manifest that you refer to, must be a 2nd trip.

Census records showing 1894, with Maria, Lucy, & Camilla born in LA.

1920 census

NOTE: Vincent is a widower, living with daughter, Frances Piro. Frances Piro married a Piro?

thank you for your help and I am glad that you hit the same road blocks that I hit but that Piro family could be family but they are not the same, the family I am looking for left on September 1903 on the Massilin
out of Palermo : Vincenzo Piro - 42,Angelina Tumminella -40 spouse, Francesa - 13 daughter, Benedetto - 9 son, Maria - 4 daughter, Lucia - 3 sister - Carmela - daughter I actually have a photo of that family. That is the family I am looking for. I started with the other family and realized I had taken a wrong turn...... several so far.
Thank You,
Suzanne

Hi Susanne,

Census ages can be off (these are either right on or off by 1 or 2) & by the time the 1910 was taken, they may have considered Lucy their daughter & not sister to Vincenzo? (BIG age difference....perhaps relationship on manifest was entered incorrectly) Just my opinion, but I think this is the correct family. The LDS films will be able to tell you if there were two different Vincenzo Piro married to two different Angelina (Angela) Tumminella (sp)

Lets see what others have to say, before I delete everything.
