This particular ancestor has been confusing..... :?
Just when I think I've got it......something throws me off!!
My cousin provided me with the research she had done, but she didn't go beyond James. I do believe James was married more than once and also a possibility he was named after his father.

I know for fact that James Pringle was born in 1832, possibly January.
Possible birth place, Hawick, Roxburgshire.
First wife, Isabella/Isabelle Rae/Ray, born 1835, Scotland.
Second wife, Ann J., surname unknown, born 1850, Ireland.

My grandmother used to say we had Scots-Irish in us, and she always referred to Isabella as being her grandmother........never mentioned anyone named Ann...but of course, family lore is one thing, facts are another....... :?

Will be interesting to see what you discover....also, I have no idea when he came to this country or with who!! The family was in Illinois up to 1880,
then moved to Clinton, Iowa.

Lisa

Hi lisa
I've searched the records for James Pringle- (Hawick, Roxburgh is in the Scottish Borders) but there was no birth there for a James Pringle; Jan. 1832. There was one birth 1831 in Galashiels which is quite near Hawick and there was one for Feb.1832 but that was in Gordon which is in the north of Scotland

I've printed some copies of what I've found and I'm going to try to post them here but I'm not to sure about the linking.
I'll have a go anyway I'm sending you a pm

I'll try the links after I've posted this

Wonder what the cousin used as source material? Need to email her and ask.....don't want to question her research methods.....but I am a firm believer in backing everything up with concrete documentation.....

That really seems to match what I have......Walter is another repetitive name in that branch of the family..........and from the 1880 census I know that James was a marshall, which is kinda funny considering his descendants were all bootleggers!!!!!!!

But now to confirm records of Scotland......I want to make sure of the area before I start writing for any documentation......My mom and I are planning a trip North to the area where they lived and then over to Clinton, Iowa where the rest of the family migrated to.........again, I'm a stickler for concrete records.....I've seen to many family trees with absurd info on them!!!!!

Is it correct that James and Isabella married in Illinois. Are you sure she was born in Scotland?
If I find anything else I let you know. Pity it dint give more infromation on that record about the marriage.
God Bless

I almost feel like I'm going to have to go at this one from square one......
found two trees, some of the data relates to both trees...and some of it makes no sense.....my cousin stopped at James and wife, she concentrated more on descendants than ascendants........ at this point,
I'm not sure of anything......

I appreciate the help.....bless you......need to put all this into better perspective and see how it all relates........ :?

Hugs,
Lisa
