any success stories??

Hi All,

My story is this:
My great grandfather was an italian citizen, he came to the
US, and he got naturalized 13 years AFTER he had my grandmother.
As far as I know, my great grandfather, my grandmother, my father,
and myself never renounced our italian citizenship.

So I believe I am elligable for italian citizenship (dual citizenship).

I am curious, does anyone have any success stories on
actually obtaining their dual citizenship?
I hear stories of how difficult and hard it is, and people taking
all the time to get the neccessary documents and then
filing the work with the consulate and then never hearing anything.

So I'm wondering if anyone has any success stories,
if anyone has gone through this process and actually got
their dual citizenship,
so that i may have some hope.

Have a look through the Emigration, Immigration, Naturalization and Italian citizenship board (if you haven't already) and you will hear of many success stories..and a few not so successful stories.

I also looked into this - my grandfather was born to my great-granfather before he was naturalized so my grandfather technically was an American and an Italian citizen since he was born to an Italian citizen. I sent a letter to the consulate back in the '90s requesting info for this dual citizenship. I was told in writing that my grandfather needed to claim his Italian citizenship and it would automatically extend to his wife (my grandmother) and their children...but not to my generation.

Marianne,

It sounds weird to say.. but whoever sent you that letter at the
consulate is wrong. There is no generational limit on attaining
dual citizenship, as long as the lineage can be proved by you.

If you Great Grandfather came to this country, then he had your
Grandfather, and afterwards got his US citizenship... then your
grandfather, his children and you technically are Italian citizens
at birth. You just have to prove your lineage to the citizenship
that you already have.

If you Great Grandfather got naturalized after your Grandfather's
birth... then you are certainly, without a doubt eligable for
dual citizenship.

It's best trying to go the consulate in person.
I would try again.

thanks for the reply - I am going to find the letter and re-read it. If it says what I originally thought it did I will try to post here for more insight....but what you said is what I originally thought - I am of that bloodline so why wdn't it apply to me, too.
