Treano/Triano/Troiano/Fergoni

Post by JNicholas »

If anyone has any information on the above names, I would appreciate it. My father told me the family was from Cosenza, Calabria. The name Treano has been spelled differently. My Grandmother was Caterina Fergoni. My grandfather may have been Ralph. I don't have much of a clue. Many thanks.

Hello JNicholas,

Welcome to the Forum! It's best to work from the present backwards. If you can provide your father's name, his siblings' names, their birth years, where they lived and where your grandfather emigrated to in the US, that information would help locate possible records.

Thanks for the response! There's the rub. I have very little info on my father's side but all kinds on my mother's.

My father's siblings were Ralph, Al, Rose, Lucy and Francis.

I just checked my father's death certificate and it has my grandfather as Constantino and grandmother as Catherine Furgoni.

I checked Ellis without success but I want to go back and use Furgoni.

Thanks again.

Thanks. Let me take a closer look. I know they lived in New York but this is the first I've heard of Ohio. I was told that he died in a mine accident around Girardville, PA but what you've found looks very good. Thanks again.

JNicholas,

The WWI draft card I posted might just be a coincidence.

Edited to delete dupe 1920 census record. Quicks Draw's too fast for Baba-Luigi!
Un abbraccio, Valarie.

John,

Still looking for ship manifests. In searching for the surnames Treano, Triano and Troiano in the province of Cosenza on italia.intettaglio.it, there were no hits for Treano nor Triano, but a number for Troiano.

# or people/ Comune Name/ Province

16.56 Villapiana Cosenza
13.80 Trebisacce Cosenza
9.56 Plataci Cosenza
9.03 Rende Cosenza
6.04 Castrovillari Cosenza
5.60 Cosenza Cosenza
3.11 Ciro` Marina Crotone
2.80 Amantea Cosenza
2.50 Francavilla Marittima Cosenza
2.38 Civita Cosenza

It might not have any significance but I thought I'd post just in case.

Your grandmother's surname Furgoni/Fergoni has me stumped. It must be a corruption, but of what I haven't figured out.

Thanks John. I think I located my grandfather on the Ellis Island DB as Costantino Troiano arriving on June 6th, 1911 which correlates roughly with what you found under Friano. I'm still looking for Fergoni or Fergone.

I did find the grandfather Pazquale Feudale though. While trolling through Ancestry.com, I found it listed under 'Fendale' although the manifest clearly says Feudale. No luck on Barbara Pirelli yet.

Besides Fergoni, I'm looking for dates of death for the great grandparents and grandfather Troiano but I'm not having any luck. I have some Triano cousins, I believe, in Richmond that I'll try to contact. I had an uncle Al Triano who lived in Richmond and died in 93. Maybe the cousins will have some information.

John,

If the 1911 manifest you found is your grandfather Constantino's, it doesn't yield a lot of information other than approximate year of birth, last residence, place of birth, and destination. Nearest relative in Italy appears to be "many" not too helpful. And although his destination is given as Jersey City, it appears that there is no person mentioned on the second page as the one he's joining. Likewise, the Special Inquiry listing for him only shows he was hospitalized for three days and then discharged.

I've got a couple of possible leads relative to finding more information on Constantino which I'll PM you.
