"Stati delle anime" records?

Post by MauroMags »

Can someone explain to me what information can be found in "Stati delle anime" records?

Is there an exact method or protocol when asking a parish for such records? Do i ask for the head of the family? How do they distinguish between sets of families of the same surname? Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,
Mauro

Check here

STATO delle ANIME: consisted of a list of parish members grouped by household done by
the priest on annual base when visiting the families during Easter. It is normally used in
comparison to population registers, since it gives an indication of the population present each
year in the municipality and of the composition of the household.
