LANDA italian ancestors in USA

Post by Lionese »

Hi, I'm French and my English is not perfect :?
I was born in Lyon, in France but my father's origins are Italian (there are a lot of italian immigrants in my city). I'm looking for some information on a part of my father's family who left Italy at the end of 19th century or at the beginning of the 20th century. Could anyone help me ? The name is LANDA (south italian). Thanks a lot :D

Thanks a lot misbris !!!!!!!!! Only one person have signification for me : Lucia Landa from Baronisti. I had a look on "pagine bianche" but there weren't any Landa from Greci. It seems to me it would be a mistake from Ellis Island. The real name would not be Lauda ? Besides, where could I get some information on all the Italian immigrants Landa in the US from the earliest to the lastest ? For example, one of my father's uncle was Angiolo in the 50's. Thousands of thanks

From 1852 until 1891 there were 81 Landa surnamed immigrants (mostly from Germany in the early years and later Italians) and from 1892 to 1924 there were 500 + immigrants surnamed landa from all parts of the world entering the USA at NYC at Ellis Island. However, there are many other ports (Philadelphia, Boston, baltimore, New orleans, san Francisco etc etc where immigrants entered and no records are immediately available who may have been surnamed Landa as well. Only NARA. gov websigte may start you off in further research of that goal should you wish to pursue it. =Peter=
