Ship Manifests for 1950s

Post by AnitaDamini »

Hi all
I am new at this and could use some help

I am researching some relatives who emigrated in the 1950s from Genoa to New York. Other than Ellis Island website, where else can I search for manifests?
For some, I have the ship's name, and dates of travel. For others, I only know they emigrated in the 1950s.
Some landed at Halifax.

I appreciate your suggestions

Ancestry.com provides manifest into the 1950's, however it is a paid subscription site.

Many of the members here at ItalianGenealogy have a subscription and would be more than happy to look up the name/names you are seeking if you can provide more information. Full name, approximate birthdate, and if female, include maiden name. Marital status if known, and any others you would expect the person to be traveling with, such as spouse and children.

Thanks, I appreciate the offer. I will give you the information that I know
All of the individuals below emigrated from Italy to Canada.

Augusto Feltracco
male, single, born 14 October 1935
sailed from Genoa, March 1955
arrived Halifax?
Need: name of ship, arrival port, other details

Andrea Feltracco (Augusto's brother)
male, single, born 1937?
emigrated in 1957, no other details known

Antonio Alberton
male, single born 1899 from San Zenone degli Ezzelini, Treviso, sailed May 1923 Genoa to New York on the Dante Aligheri, bound for work in Alberta with fellow lads from same home town
Returned to San Zenone a few years later ? unknown date
emigrated to Canada 1954 or 55?
Port of departure unkown
Port of entry unknown.
He was married but he did not travel with his wife - she arrived later ? Her name: Giuseppina Parinetto Alberton. They had 9 children, they would have travelled with any combination of their children: Teresa Alberton, Ellena Alberton, Giuseppi Alberton, Lino Alberton, Gemma Alberton, Imelda Alberton, Oddina Alberton, Sylvana Alberton, Pio Alberton
Would like details of travel: ports of departure/entry, ship's name, dates, ship photo

Mario Damini
born 9 December 1925, San Giovanni d'Illarone, Verona
male, single, departed from Genoa around 1955
Port of entry not known.
Would like to know: port of entry, ship's name, dates, ship photo
May have travelled with brother, Umberto Damini

Moro family
from Castelfranco Veneto
emigrated in 1950s
Antonio Moro b. 16June 1899, birthplace: Castel di Godego, Treviso
Olinda Gregato Moro (wife) b. 20June 1908, birthplace: Castelminio, Treviso
and children all born in Castelfranco Veneto:
Luigi Moro b. 1930; Bertila Moro b. 1932; Anna (also known as Zita) Moro b. 1933- married to Giuseppi Poloni; Ofelia Moro - b. 1935; Flavia Moro b. 1936; and Fervido Moro b. 1940
family emigrated in several groups.
Flavia Moro travelled with parents May 1956, Genoa to New York on "Independence"
Would like details on the travel dates, port of departure and entry, and ships names of other family members

Also seeking info about Giovanni Gregato (brother of Olinda Gregato Moro)
Born in Castelminio 1902? Parents Celestina Lucato and Gaetano Gregato. Believe he may have emigrated to Canada for a brief time 1920s? and then returned to live in Treviso area. He had another brother who emigrated and settled in Toronto, name and dates uknown, but likely born in Castelminio Treviso.

Thanks I appreciate any help you can offer.

Still unable to provide the image..but here is some further info regarding immigration records into Canada:

http://www.theshipslist.com/Research/canadarecords.htm

Request for info:

Records of immigrants arriving at Canadian land and seaports from January 1, 1936 onwards remain in the custody of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. To request a copy of another person's immigration record, you must mail your request to the under-noted office:

Citizenship and Immigration Canada
Public Rights Administration
360 Laurier Avenue West
10th Floor
Ottawa, ON
K1A 1L1

Please note that:

The request should include the full name at time of entry into Canada, date of birth and year of entry. Additional information is helpful, such as country of birth, port of entry and names of accompanying family members.
Applications for copies of documents must be submitted on an Access to Information Request Form [www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/tbsf-fsct/tbsf-fsct_e.asp] by a Canadian citizen or an individual residing in Canada. Fee: $5.00, payable to the Receiver General for Canada.
The request must be accompanied by a signed consent from the person concerned or proof that he/she has been deceased 20 years. Proof of death can be a copy of a death record, a newspaper obituary or a photograph of the gravestone showing name and death date. Proof of death is not required if the person would be over 110 years of age.
