I am trying to find information on a Luigi or Louis Calcagno who lived at Bowen/Bouen Place, Brooklyn in 1910.
My great-great grandfather Paolino arrived into Ellis Island on 30 June 1906 and was going to stay with his "Brother in law" Luigi Calcagno in Brooklyn.
Paolino was born in 1870 and died in 1937, I would imagine Luigi would be about his same age. I do not know how he could be related since Paolino's wife was a Fontana.
If anyone has any connection to Calcagno families who lived in Brooklyn around the turn of the Century (1906) I would love to hear from you.
Thanks
Jim

Re: Calcagno surname
Jim I'm thinking that the brother-in-law relationship could be Paolino's wife...her sister married Luigi Calcagno so that would make Luigi and Paolino brother-in-laws.
What do you think?
As for the street address, I'm seeing Boeun Place but I can't find it on any of my guides.

I think you're correct. Jim here is a 1913 map of Brooklyn showing Boerum Place. I hope it stayed enlarged. It almost looks like a hand drawn line east of court st. and intersects Livingston.dvaccaro wrote:there is a "Boerum Place" in Brooklyn... a possibility?
I don't know if this geographical area will ring a bell with you.

Re: Calcagno surname
Yes that is right Boerum Place. Biff found the family in 1910 and 1920. Unfortunately I have no clue as to how Luigi Calcagno was a "Brother-in-law". He was evidently 18 years older than my Paolo Bianco. Luigi died in 1913 in NYC. His wife was called Anna or Nancy and it is said they came in 1884.
Here is the census info Biff found:
Calcagno Louis 63 y Apr 21 1913 8465 Kings 1849 - 1850

Nancy/Anna was born around 1864/1867 which would work with Paolo's wife's date of birth (1874) as a sister. Paolo had sisters also, but I don't know of a Nancy or Anna.
Maybe the 1884 manifest would help...
