Help on Calvano Ancestry in Italy

Post by Calvano »

I am trying to locate relatives in Italy. My great grandfather's name was Sebastino Calvano and he married Agatha Norelli. His son, my grandfather, Antonio Calvano was born April 2, 1888. I believe he was born in the town of Dugenta near Frasso Telesino. He came to the US somewhere between 1913 and 1917. He had some brothers and a sister. I believe his sister's name was Michelena. I don't know his brother's name. My father Sebastian Calvano was born in the US. Thanks, Mike - ciao

Hi and welcome to this forum! :D

I found a first arrival manifest with his name crossed out in July 1913, so he didn't travel that time:

Then I searched on Philadelphia passengers list and found his arrival in September 1913 (he declared he was in USA from 1909 to 1912, Joining his cousin Pasquale Nocelli in Philadelphia:

Thanks to all for the research. This is my grandfather. My father listed as Benny on the census, is Sebastian sometimes called Buster (from the shortened Sebastino - basti)

What I would really like to do is find more about my grandfather's brothers and sisters in Italy. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to find relatives in Italy? Thanks, Mike

Thanks for the phone #'s. Does anyone know of a way to email people in Italy? I don't speak Italian and I think it would be difficult to speak to people by phone. Thanks, Mike

Any suggestions on next steps for contacting people in Italy? I would prefer to do it in writing as I can not speak Italian. Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike

Compose a letter introducing yourself (in English) and then post it to the translation forum on this site and ask someone if they would please translate to italian for you. Then just print it off, make copies, sign your name and send to the addresses you have.

Hope this helps

I know this post is over 2 years old, but I too am looking for a Calvano. I'm going to post this separately, but just in case Calvano and I are related I thought I'd state my predicament.

My great Grandfather David(e) Calvano immigrated about 1903 or 1904. I believe I've recovered his immigration record showing he came from Fraso Tel. I believe I've found him in the 1920 and 1930 US censuses. My main problem is finding who his parents are. Going by the census, he probably was born 1885 or 1886. His wife was Caroline Marano and they married about 1909, probably in New Jersey.
