Trying to track down my grandfather's birth certificate from a town labeled 'S. Fili' on his naturalization paper work. I assume he meant 'San' Fili, which I understand is in the province of Calabria.
Has anyone out there ever heard of this town? Or dealt with it? I'm trying to establish dual citizenship and need his birth certificate.
Thanks!
San Fili - Calabria?

- San Fili, comune of San Fili, province: Cosenza, region: Calabria

I know that both Cathynap and Nuccia have roots in San Fili. I would definitely contact them with your surnames. The best way to get in touch with either of them is to check Nuccia's forum here:

No, only 'S. Fili' is on the ship's (Oceania, 1912). However, I do see on his Petition for Naturalization that for his place of birth, 'S. Fili (Cosenza) Italy is shown.
By the way, what does 'comune' mean, as it's used here?

From Italy World Club:
http://www.italyworldclub.com/italian_frazioni/
“The administrative organization of Italy consists of regions, provinces, comuni or municipii, and frazioni
(also the term borgata is sometimes used for the smaller administrative entities).
When a comune consists of more places, the municipal office is only in one of these places,
usually the one that gives the name to the comuneâ€

San Fili is very close to the capital city, Cosenza..I have been there on my many trips...The Archivio di Stato in Cosenza would be the best place to write for documents or if filmed, the Family History Library if near your home. You can check on Familysearch.org ,,do a place search and see if the records have been microfilmed.
