Unable to find town where ggf came from

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Unable to find town where ggf came from

Post by nprofit »

Hi - new to this site. I am unable to find the town where my ggf came from in Italy. Came to NY in 1882 from Havre; last known address is Torino. But it seemed like everyone on the ship came from Torino! GGF name is Ferdinando Cantagalli born 1849; his father's name was Giuseppe. Where do you look when it could be anywhere in Italy??!! Thanks for your help. Nancy

abt Modane, Wales .......... I have some doubt... ...enlarging the ship's manifest I read on previous lines also Naples Wales and Pavia Wales.... I believe that the Wales handwriting is really different of Wales... .... in the next page it is also a Giovanni Cantagalli travelling age 31 in 1882 and the birthtown is illegible really... someone with better eyes can help?

Re: Cantagalli or Monsagradi

Post by nprofit »

Thanks to those who responded regarding my gg grandfather, Ferdinando Cantagalli. The 1900 census was new for me; I have the 1910 census. I wondered if Modane was the town in Italy. Does anyone have any information on that town?

I believe Giovanni Cantagalli was related since they were on the same ship.

Also, his wife Louisa (Luisa) Monsagradi. I have no information on her after the 1910 census. Any suggestions?

Thanks, again for all your help!

www.tiscali.it is an italian website and has total references to the town of MODANE which is what you put in the title provided you can read the Italian language. =Peter=
