Italian Passport Info

Post by debbth »

Can anyone tell me where I should send a request for the passport information for my grandparents? Their passports were issued at Melma (TV) on Feb 17, 1922. Melma is now Silea (TV).
Thanks, Debbie
Happy hunting everyone! I wish you all great success!

Dear Debbth I am inclined to want to either telephone the Italian Consulate in Vancluver where you reside at 604-685-4263 or wirte them at 510 Hastings St. N, 1100 Vancouver BC ,V6B1L8, and ask them for the information you are seeking. =Peter=

Peter,
I don't understand, why would I go to the Consulate in Vancouver? My grandparents never lived in Vancouver and the passports I seek were issued in Italy.
Thank you for your help,
Debbie

It would be the first place for you to check. You are looking for Italian passwports and you are in Vancouver. The Italian Consulate in your jurisdiction would be the first place to check.

Because the Italian Vancouver Consulate will have the address to where an inquiry can be made in Italy about the passport issued in Italy. =Peter=

Just out of curiosity, why passports? Do you want them "just to have" or as proof of citizenship? If the latter, there are probably easier ways to accomplish that goal.

Dear Debbth can you have someone who is versed in the italian language write a letter in Italian? Writing in english may or may not be the the best way to go and this is why I referred you to the Vancouver office of the Italian Consulate since they undoubtedly understand english well and can advise you accordingly. You might ask them if they give you an address whether you should write in Italian or will english suffice? =Peter=

Thank you tonyric, Peter, johnnyonthespot and elba for all your input and information.

I would like the passport because I am in the process of gathering family information for a family history book I want to create for my daughter (and myself for that matter). I figure the passport may have a photo with it and it would be one of the few photos of my grandfather.

Peter, you have a point about seeking the info through the Consulate in Vancouver. They would surely know English however, I know someone that may be willing to write a letter in Italian for me.

Elba, thank you for the address.

Thanks again to all of you for your help.
