Welcome to the forum
A quick check of US records (census) on ancestry.com indicates
the Guissani spelling is Italian.
You may want to do a search for both spellings & variations on the Ellis Island
site: http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellisgold.html
Do you need assistance in finding any of your family's records?

In the Familysearch.org website3 Guisani shows up in Peru in the 1700's and Guissani shows up in England with english first names but in Switzerland Guissani show up with Italian first names!!!but are more of them than in Italy where there is one with an Italian first name as well. I would consider the Guissani surname to beeither an imported surname from someother country or a local italian surname since neither spelling shows up in the Italian surname dictionary at all!! =Peter=
