Prestia's from Sicily

Franco Prestia was born in Sciacca, Sicily (Argrigento Region) in Early 1910-20, the son of Vito and Giuseppina Prestia. I believe her maiden name was somthing like Giuseppina Guercia/o. Several members of his family still live in Sciacca. Also, his grandfather's name was Franco Prestia who married ?Acusi Ferrara/Ferraro?


He married Anna SanPaolo of Carini, Sicily (Palermo region), had 3 children (Vito, Joe, Ignzaio) and immigrated to America in the 1960's.

Franco Prestia is my grandfather and recently passed away (9-2004).

If you want to look for the Birth, Marriage, and Death Records of your ancestors, the Family History Center has microfilm for the town of Sciacca that goes from 1820-1929.

I am a descendant of Vincenzo Prestia who was my grandfather (whom I never met) and am in receipt of a copy of his manifesto. My brother is his namesake. The information in the manifesto includes that he immigrated to America from Palermo on August 19, 1905 arrived in New York harbor (through Ellis Island) on September 2 as a single male at the age of 24. Prior to immigrating, he served in the Merchant Marine. Upon entering America, was unable to speak or read English, possessed currency worth $12, and entered as a laborer. he was going to join his brother Prestia Alberto living in Mulberrry street NYC.

Then he did at least a trip to Italy on 1926, here is the 1926 arrival manifest for Alfonso who stated he was leaving his wife Gerlanda Galletto in Porto Empedocle...He was coming back to his home in Brooklyn, 93 Union street to join his brother Alberto.
(Silvia, Alfonso nel 1925/1926 tornò in Italia e dichiarò di essere sposato con Gerlanda, dichiarò che stava tornando a casa a Brooklyn - 93 Union street, dal fratello Alberto e che era stato in USA dal 1919 al 1925)
