Maybe the "u" was a holdover from a more "southern" dialect... :wink:

Her dialect pronunciation was a definitive "booh". Heard her say it hundreds of times. My mother said it too.

It's an earlier mutation of U3b. U3b2 (at least my subclade and HVR1 & HVR2 mutations) seem to stem from Sicily...

I have numerous DNA matches with ancestors in Messina, Agrigento and Palermo provinces. No connections thus far that I can find, however...

Hi, looks like this thread hasn’t been active in awhile but I just found it.

My haplogroup is U3b1 and mother’s maternal grandmother was from Lucito Campobasso, Italy. Came to the USA around 1900 with her parents

Just been googling and trying to learn more. I hit a brick wall with my great-great grandmother’s parents
