Did family automatically become citizens they WW1 naturalization?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Did family automatically become citizens they WW1 naturalization?

Post by Pat DePanicis »

I wanted to apply for Italian citizenship but think I am out of luck. My grandfather was born in Italy and immigrated to the US in 1914. Fought for the US and was granted citizenship in 1918. My grandmother came over in 1919 and my father was born in 1920. Did my grandmother automatically become a citizen in 1918 or did she have to apply after arriving in the US? Everything I can find so far says her citizenship was by marriage. Thanks.

Since your gm came to the US before the Cable Act was enacted, she automatically became a US citizen. The good news is that, because she didn't herself naturalize, you have a viable 1948 case.
