Looking for Italian birth certificate

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Looking for Italian birth certificate

Post by Ricardo »

Hi,

I am looking for Italian great grandfather's birth certificate with a view to applying for Italian dual citizenship and so far am having difficulty in finding out the best way of doing this. I understand that birth certificates are held by the local council of the town where a person was born.

I believe my great grandfather was born in Belforte which is part of a town called Radicondoli, so my question is: would I be looking to write to somewhere in Belforte to request this or Radicondoli?

Looking to streamline my search as I understand that you have to write to request the birth certificate, so wanting to get that part correct in the first place.

Also, would I be searching for the address for a council office/town hall to write with this request?

Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks,

Ricardo
