Need to find ships manifest from sicily to boston for sanfilippo family. They travelled in the winter in the early 1900's. The names were Josephine (Guissepina?) Paolina? Marianna? Charles

Many Sanfilippo listed on Boston passenger lists. Can you provide ages? Did they travel together? Do you know the comune in Sicily?

I believe they were from Caltanissetta. The mother's name was Sigismonda Sanfilippo. The children were Giuseppa, Marianna,Paolina, and Charles. They arrived in Boston in the winter. I think in January. My guess is they arrived sometime between 1904 and 1916.

Per pm message from bostontobolton, the Boston manifest is for correct familly.

Can someone explain to me where the info about friend's name came from? Is there more to this record that isn't available online?

I'm trying to get to this link http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/7010/sanfilippo6hw.jpg Everytime I try, I get a message saying "Failure Connection." Am I doing something wrong?

Hi Joyce,

It could have something to do with the changes you made to your computer yesterday with the broswers...you said you were having trouble so don't beat yourself up over it. Try again, and if it doesn't work, then we'll help you figure it out until it does work. :D

You know my email if you need it...... :D :D

bostontobolton,

Often immigrants needed to have someone sponsor them in order to come over to America. This is where the friends name comes in. This is the person who "called" him over. Often it was a relative, spouse, godparent, etc...maybe something you can also look into to see how they relate to your family? My great grandfather was sponsored by his Brother in Law's brother and that's how I found the connection to my great grandmother's family (and her sister).

I hope this is what you were asking about.

Nuccia,

I know that a lot of immigrants had sponsors. My question is: the printed record (before the image link post) states friend's name, but the manifest does not show this information, unless I'm missing it. Where info should be it states "NOBOBY" So where did this information come from? A second page not online?

Good question. It must have been a name provided as doesn't appear online like you say. Maybe someone else can offer their opinion. Sorry, I can't give you a better explaination than this. :(
