www.tuttitalia.it/friuli-venezia-giulia/87-cordenons is the website of choice and scroll down to MUNICIPIO for the address in order to request BMD documents from 1871 to 1911 for your family from the UFFICIO DI STATO CIVILE in Cordenone.
Go to http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html for the form letters in Italian
Youmight also wish to go to google.com and put in the title "Raffin genealogy codrenone Italy" for any genealogy conducted for Raffin surname. =Peter=

This looks like it might be Federico's manifest. There is a lot of info on it. Can you confirm it is the correct manifest?

The most common five family names in Cordenons:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
176.15 Turrin
173.44 De Piero
157.18 Scian
132.79 Raffin
124.66 Romanin
Perhaps this is why there are 2 branches.

The surname Raffin is common in all three Northern East regions of Italy.jenf wrote:

To avoid homonymies, in the past, it became necessary to add a nickname to people having the same surname, the same first name and sometimes the same date of birth.
Nicknames could indicated a profession, a physical peculiarity, the place they were from or just didn't have any meaning. Most of the times nicknames were dialectal words.
I believe "Sechat" is not the correct spelling but just the way you pronounce it in English. They way you wrote it would sound "Sekat" in Italian. The correct spelling could be most probably "Secià t". This word in the dialect of Veneto comes from "sècia" which means "bucket", so "secià t" could indicate someone making buckets, or **SPAM** buckets and other tools.
Hope this helps.

In some of my family paper work says my family is from --
Cordenons, Udine Italy but when I look at the map it shows Cordenons is in the Prov. of Pordenone Italy.
Did the Cordenons change prov.?

You are correct.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Province_of_Pordenone
But civil records are found in the town, so it is not a problem for research.

Re: Raffin family from Cordenons Italy, Prov. of Udine.
My family, Raffin, is also from Cordenons. My grandfather, Guiseppe Raffin, emigrated to the states in the 1930s. Guiseppe was 1 of 11 or 13 children. He lived in Troy and Schenectedy NY, NYC, and Medford, MA. He was first and foremost a cook, but also a carpenter. My grandmother was Assunta D'Andrea, daughter of Giacomo D'Andrea, also from Cordenons.
I have visited Cordenons a few times. From my understanding there were 2 Raffin families in Cordenons. On my visit, I met more of the D'Andrea side of the family, but I did meet a few Raffin relatives.

My Family is from Cordenons Italy. My grandfather immigrated to the US in the 1930's. He was Antonio Raffin married to Yolanda Schiavon. He had a sister Victoria who remained in Italy as our family grew in the US. We have been to Cordenons many times, but are closer to my grandmothers family. I may be able to help you with more information form my relatives.
Re: Raffin family from Cordenons Italy, Prov. of Udine.
I am trying to find out any information I can on my paternal grandparents, Guiseppe Raffin and his wife Rosa Assunta D'Andrea Raffin, both immigrating to US in or about 1930 and 1934 respectively from Udine. I know nothing about their parents/siblings, though I believe Rosa's father was GIacomo. If anyone has any info I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
