Sandra if it is not a personal matter, it might not be as difficult genealogically as you might imagine. Perhaps if you work with someone collaboratively who can direct your efforts and is competent in both languages you might be better off and do it without any expenditures on your part. Peter

Thanks Marty. Why do I have to send them a copy of my driver's license or passport? I'm not sure I feel comfortable about doing this.

Sandra, in the interim you might wish to obtain an excellent genealogy book that will always be a reference book for you. It is titled ITALIAN GENEALOGICAL RECORDS, Trafford R. Cole. It is an easy read and illustrated to cover the full range of documents from an ancient period to the present. Being familiar with Italian genealogy will then allow you to make inquiries of a more complex nature in short order. Good luck. Peter

FYI http://www.tuttitalia.it/basilicata/84-pomarico This is the website for the Comune of Pomarico and by clicking the http://www.pomarico (last one) you will then be brought to the town website. It is in Italian but there maybe fotos you might enjoy if Italian language proves difficult. Peter

They don't want to know that info precise and to the point is the way you get a response with the comune

Marty I don't think there is any harm in displaying recognition of a family member in a request relating to family ??

Yes, I think it's a good idea to let them know I am a descendant of the person I'm seeking info on, so would like to say this in Italian. Could someone help me with this?

Thanks,

Sandra
