Conti & Carano Family from Carovilli Italy

Post by LConti » 08 Jul 2016, 03:58

Hello my name is Lauren Conti
I was able to trace my ancestry back to my 2nd great grandparents that are from Carovilli, Italy. Their names are Stefano (Stephen) Conti b.1861 - d.1931 and Sabina(Sabatina) Conti est. birth 1868 in Carovilli, her maiden name was Carano. I would like to know more about them. I think I have the names of her siblings correct but I don't know any of Stefano's or what his parents names are & I would like to see if we still have descendants in Italy but I'm not sure how to search for records in Carovilli, if you have any advice feel free to share. I've done most of my research through & I know I've hit a dead end on there.
I know Sabina's siblings went to Krebs, OK. Stefano & Sabina resided in Ladd, IL for most of their lives in the states while many of my relatives in Chicago.
Other last names in my family tree are: Carano (Crano) Cezidlo Titone Stasi Urso

Welcome to IG website

The online records of Carovilli, are nil so I would rent the Family History Library microfilms of Carovilli that can be viewed and copied at a FHL center near you
Registri dello stato civile di Carovilli (Campobasso), 1809-1899 Births, marriages, banns, marriage documents, deaths including indexes.
In searching Italian civil records you have birth(nati) death(morte) marriage (matrimoni) by year most go from 1866-1910 some towns have other years. Indexes are found at the beginning or end of the year you are searching by index number and surname. There are also multi year indexes which combine 5 or 10 years of indexes
Babies are born then presented to the civil official of the town usually within a few days of birth for entry in the birth registry. If there is a problem and they cant register the birth act until much later they are entered in the Parte 2 for that year usually in the rear of the records and that record is usually handwritten. Sometimes there are sidenotes with marriage or death information or if the act has a mistake in it a correction to those mistakes
Marriage records include birth town, ages, occupations, parents names, if they are deceased
Death records have age parents if they were married and to whom and usually town of birth
Civil records are signed by the civil official and 2 witnesses not usually family members
