Vulcania Passenger Manifest List - April 8, 1957

Post by quags »

I am trying to seek assistance locating a passenger manifest list. My father immigrated to Canada aboard the passenger ship Vulcania. The ship arrived at pier 21 in Halifax on April 8, 1957. The ship had 1064 passengers and sailed to the ports of New York, Boston, Halifax-Lisbon, Casablanca, Gibraltar, Barcelona, Cannes, Genoa, Palermo, Naples, Patras, Venice, Trieste.

I am hoping someone in this forum can provide further assistance!

I went page by page through MANY manifests on Ancestry hoping that I could find the manifest he was on when the ship arrived in New York. I was not successful because the ship stopped at New York AFTER departing Halifax. (did not realize this until later  )

At this site, if you haven't seen it, they have passenger manifests for the Vulcania, but the latest one is from 1951.

I am not sure if the Canadian manifest is available online. You may wish to write to Pier 21.

Here is the link on Ancestry if you want to take a look. Demonstrates that a ship manifest exists somewhere.

Hello Quags.
Just wondering where your family settled after coming through Pier 21

My father arrived through there in 1952, and later in 1953 my mother, grandmother, aunt and two oldest sisters.

I've visited Pier 21's museum a few times now - moved to tears. So much so I (with siblings) bought a brick on their wall of Honour after my first visit and suggestion of doing so -- https://www.pier21.ca/walls/Honour/Carm ... -Belvedere

The facility itself may be of use to you, so explore their website to see if anything can come of it to help you gain more knowledge. https://www.pier21.ca/research

Good luck. I hope this helps in some way.

Hi John. Thanks for sharing the link to your family story. Purchasing a brick at Pier 21 is a wonderful tribute. I hope to visit the pier soon! Like your parents, my grandparents immigrated in South Western Ontario.
