DeMuro, Ferrante, Sandomenico +Chiariello
Hello friends!
I am currently on a treasure hunt trying to find more information about my Italian relatives in Italy. Here's what I know:
DEMURO
Francesco DeMuro, my great-grandfather, was born in Gravina in Puglia in 1889 to parents Giovanni DeMuro and Marianna Verri. Francesco had 8 or 9 siblings: Donata, Anna, Francescopaolo, Virginia, Emilio, Giuseppe, Carmela and Maria. That's all I really know about that.
FERRANTE
My great-grandmother was named Agnese Ferrante and she was born in Salerno, Italy in 1896. Her father was Raffaele Ferrante and mother was Maddalena Sandomenico. According to my grandmother, Maddalena's parents' marriage was annulled because they came from different classes and it upset the parents. Raffaele and Maddalena had 4 children: Alfonso Ferrante, Francesco Ferrante, Bonaventura Ferrante (died at 16) and Agnese.
CHIARIELLO
My great-grandfather was named Vito Chiariello and he was born in San Gregorio Magno in 1894. His parents were Agostino and Margherita Chiariello. They had 6 children: Alfonso, GIuseppe and Vito and then 3 daughters: Rosa, Assunta and Margherita. The girls remained in Italy while the boys came to America.
If anyone has more information on how to find records from Campania and Salerno, it would be very helpful! Thank you!

I found the following record. Someone may want to followup:
First Marriage Bann No 94: Giovanni Dimuro (widower) and Marianna Verre (unmarried)
Gravina: 9 March 1872
Brief extraction:
Prospective Groom was Giovanni Demuro (spelling?) , a widower, born and living in Gravina, 26 yo, Speziale Manuale, son of Francesco Paolo and Rosa Vitucci
Prospective Bride was Marianna Verre, unmarried, born and living in Montepeluso, 16, Civile (landowner), daughter of Michele Verre and Donata Lapelosa
I understand that the town Montepluso is now called Irsina which is in the province of Matera, Basilicata?

Re: DeMuro, Ferrante, Sandomenico +Chiariello
Thank you everyone! I am so amazed at what you've found! If anyone can find any info on Maddalena Sandomenico (born in Sarno around 1867) and her family, I would appreciate that!! From my grandmother's stories, Maddalena's parents' marriage was annulled because the Sandomenico family did not approve of their marriage because they were from different classes. I know Maddalena was born in Sarno, but I cannot find ANY info on the Sandomenicos.

Re: DeMuro, Ferrante, Sandomenico +Chiariello
There was a rumor that Maddalena's records may have been destroyed because her parents (names unknown) were from different classes and their parents had their marriage annulled making Maddalena a "bastard" child or child out of wedlock. I wonder if someone can find any record of Raffaele and Maddalena's marriage record.
Thank you so much for finding the info on the Sandomenicos -- perhaps they're related somehow.

Hey Angela, thanks so much for your help. What does "Speziale Manuale" mean? Is that a person or does it mean something else?AngelaGrace56 wrote: ↑01 Jun 2017, 22:13 I found the following record. Someone may want to followup:

"Speziale Manuale" was his occupation. He was a vendor/shopkeeper. If you click here you will find some info about this occupation: https://www.italiangenealogy.com/forum/language/32286
