How to determine parish of a town in Italy?

Post by jrd01 »

Hello, is there anyway to determine Turi, Bari Italy's parish?

I'm at a dead end trying to find a birth certificate for Cosmo Vito Decarolis born in 1791 [Turi, Bari, Italy].

Would contacting the comune of Turi help?

Thank you!

Parrocchia Maria SS Ausiliatrice, Telefono: 080.8915683.(From abroad call 0039808915683). Indirizzo: Via Ten. Notarnicola n. 56, 70010 Turi Italia. . The comune will and can not help you because the date is before the start of the Stato Civile (1809).

Here is the marriage of Vito Cosmo de Carolis with Vita Lucia Lefemmine in 1812.

Dated 24 May 1812 in Turi
Groom: Vito Cosmo De Carolis, minor, age 22, countryman residing in this town in Strada San Vito; son of Scipione de Carolis, 57, countryman residing in this town, and of Antonia Cassotta, 57, residing with her husband.
Bride: Vita Lucia Lefemmine, 16y and about 8 months, countrywoman residing in this town in Strada Arco di Palmisano; daughter of deceased Francesco Lefemmine {died 2 May of the current year], and of Domenica Diomede, 48, countrywoman residing with her daughter.
Publication of banns and no opposition are noted on the second page.

There are Diversi records for 1812 available online, but you can only view them while at a Family History Center or an affiliated library. These Diversi may contain the allegati of marriage (attachments) which will include the baptism of Vito Cosmo and Vita Lucia.

You could look for death records for those born before 1809. That will take you back another generation.

As Ann stated, the death acts bring us another generation back :-)

Here is the death act for Antonia Cassotta (mother of Vito Cosmo de Carolis) on 30 December 1829

#124
Antonia was age 80 (so born about 1749) and the widow of Scipione de Carolis.
She was born in TURI to deceased Vitantonio Cassotta and deceased Petronilla Colapinto.

AND***

Here is the death act of Scipione de Carolis on 27 June 1819
Scipione was age 66, countryman. He was the husband of Antonia Cassotta.
Scipione was born in TURI to (now both deceased) Vito Lorenzo de Carolis, and Antonia Moretta. http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0

The Diversi records of 1812 only had 2 records. The death record of Nicola Valentini and the death record of Vitantonio di Zella.
