Francesco Grandone

Post by JamesM »

I have been researching Francesco and have come to a dead end.
He had lived in Worcester, MA
It seems he was born in approximately 1862.
He was married at least twice. One wife was Maria Bavoso 1866-1906
Another wife Concetta D’Alessandro married 1907
In the 1910 census, Francesco is labeled as a widower. I haven’t found Concetta’s death.
I have also seen that he is alive when his son registered for WWI.
Then i can’t seem to find anything after.
His parents seem to be Vito and Sarah but maybe she is Serafina as a daughter was named that.

Any leads would be appreciated.

Hi James - Do you know Francesco's Italian hometown? And, maybe the hometowns of his spouses?

According to this:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AN4D1-KWL

his mother was Rosa Gaynolini (but this must be a misspelling)
Here is the ship manifest of 1890, that does not report the town he was from:

According to Maria's death record, Sarah was her mother:

Unfortunately, the surnames always seem to be misspelled.

Two brothers probably married two sisters:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AN4W9-WJP

Domenicantonio Grandone, son of Vito, and Rosa Agnolillo (this might be the right spelling) married
Maria Giovanna Bavosa, daughter of Francesco, and Serafina Cudono (?)
on May 29th, 1895
Giuseppe "Pippo" Moccaldi

The September 20, 1937 Evening Gazette of Worcester, MA, has an obituary for a Frank Grandone. (the name, year and location match those in the index found above by darkerhorse) The obituary said he died the previous night at the home of his daughter, Lilian. It also said he was born in "Ruoto, province of Potenza, Italy," and that he immigrated to the U.S. "50 years ago." He was survived by two other daughters: Rose and Sara, and by four sons: William, Frank, Michael and Leo.

I could not find him in Ruoti.
Though, all these surnames (Angiolillo, Bavosa, Grandone) seem to come from Potenza area (Pescopagano, Oppido, Genzano, Ruvo...)
