Greco from Calopezzati

Grandfather Annibale (Anibale?) left Calopezzati, South of Calabro on the Ionian Sea, approx. 1911. Father born there in 1911 came to US approx 1914 probaly with Grandmother Serafina. Have visited there once and know I have distant relatives. One owns a bar in the Piazza and works on the shoreline during the day. Have tried Ancestry.com and Ellis Island searches to no avail. Any ideas? Any help appreciated.

Grandfather's name is Annibale (also seen it spelled Anibale). Grandmother is Serafina. Father is Giuseppe.

Calopezzati, Calabria is near Rossano in Cosenza I believe. The town is 5 kilometers from the shore of the Ionian Sea and up a mountain. It is a very small village. I met a distant relative when I was there in 1999. I speak very little Italian these days so I was not able to converse very well.

I am interested in knowing the immigration data from their travel to the US and any other family history information as well as whether any relatives remain either here or there. We lived in CT but I can recall traveling to Long Island, NY to visit friends or relatives.. I am very belatedly trying to reconstruct a heritage I am proud of but have too long neglected.

Thanks so much for the quick response. You are both right on. I've been on the Ellis Island web site 10 times and couldn't find any of the listings you folks came up with. I had my Grandfathers arrival year OK but never found him. I was under the impression my Father came over when he was 3 but I did a +/- 7 year search and still came up empty.

I have continued to look for this family in the 1920 census (of course, Serafina and Joe may not have been included yet since they came in June) but I haven't had too much luck yet. Hopefully someone can place the family..
