Astone Family

Post by mahalotm »

I am searching for any information on the Astone Family from Maschito Potenza Italy. My Great Grand Father was Domenico Astone and he came to USA (Ellis Island) on Feb 27th 1902 at the age of 20. He was a single man and it appears he came alone. He departed Napoli and i think he lived in a village called Maschitan. Many family member moved to Fresno California from there. He married my grand mother here and her family was from Italy too. The last name for her was Masucci.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

yes from the information i found last night on the internet this is him. thank you for your research. How would i find out the name of his parents and would you suggest i do next. I really should read a book on how to do this.

I am wondering why he left and came here alone. On his ship record it said his brother paid the way but i don't know his brothers name either.

thanks for the confirmed information again!

oh my goodness, you're good! yes, these are his kids names. Josophine is the only one that may be living and she won't speak to our family.

I wish i were savy like this. Maybe some day. Thanks so much! I feel like things may go faster than i figured.

You're very welcome.
Finding your family's US records in CA may not
be too difficult.
Ancestry.com is the source for many of these
(subscription site)
If we can find your g-grandmother's Masucci family
records in CA, we may be able to direct you on how
to obtain both the Astone & Masucci family records in
Italy.
Since Italian records are kept at the local level,
we'll need to find out where your Masucci's originated
from.
With pretty accurate names and birth dates your
Italian records should be obtainable.

The Family History Center is where you
would order microlfilms for your towns in
Italy (if available)
This site also has free software for building
your family tree (PAF)
FamilySearch
FamilySearch is a terrific free starting site for researching
your family's (US) records.

Valerie i can't thank you enough. I just spoke with my mom and after a little thinking over night she came up with a couple of names. My great grandfathers brothers name were joey and tommy. He had 1 or 2 more but nothing to go on.

I will see what i can find here in CA on my grandmother. God Bless you!

Another possible census
Note: names and dates will only be as accurate
as the memory/knowledge of the person giving
the information.
Another factor is whether or not the census enumerator
understood what they were saying.
Census records are great for locating family, family
relationships, possible nicknames, and approx birth
and immigration years.
With this information it’s possible to order your US
Vital Records which would be a lot more accurate
and may contain information not available anywhere
else - such as parents names and maiden names…
