Sorrentino da Poggio Marino

Post by amiamoItlaia »

[align=left]Hi, I was wondering what my next step would be.

I have learned out that my grandfather Salvatore Sorrentino arrived May 01, 1899 on the SS Boliva at Ellis Island. His father (my great grandfather) Santo Sorrentino arrived the previous year April 13, 1898 on the SS Victoria.

They came from Poggio Marino and I was wondering where to search next to discover more about any relatives that stayed in Italy.

Of course any additional info about my family in Buffalo New York would be great as well. Grazzie mille for any help you can provide.

Mike

I believe your town is Poggiomarino in the province of Naples. Here is some info about the comune.

http://en.comuni-italiani.it/063/055/index.html

As you can see there are 64 Sorrentinos with phone # 's in that town.

The Family History Centers do not have records for the town prior to 1901 so you will need to write the town directly to request information. Here's the address:

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Poggiomarino
Via De Marinis, 3
80040 Poggiomarino (NA)
ITALY

Telephone 081-8658111
Fax 081-8658250

Email address:
anagrafe_statocivile @ comune.poggiomarino.na.it

Official website of the town:
http://www.comune.poggiomarino.na.it/

Just a little tip! Names are usually carried down from previous generations. I might start with the Salvatores if I were going to contact anyone in Italy.

I've noticed that based on the large number of Ralph's I'm finding in my U.S. history, ha!javascript:emoticon('post',%20'message',%20':o')

I think I have to get more things pulled together on this side before I start bothering folks in Italy.

My head is already swimming from finding the maiden names of my Great Grandmother(Casillo) and Grandmother (Boccia).

Biff,

I noticed on the 1920 census that there is something written in column #1 and I can't make it out. I also can't read the official headings of columns two and three, BUT the handwritten numbers of the census taker in those columns show identical numbers 35 and 70 respectively for the "Miranda's" and Sorrentino's. Where they all living in the same house? I think I remember this place and there were 2 identical, small homes on the same property.

Ciao,
Mike

My name is Bob Avino and I live in Buffalo, NY. Our Family comes from the same village in Italy so we must be related! I believe my great grandparents came over sometime in the early 1900's.

I think we're cousins for sure. In fact first cousins I think. I show Madaline was 7 years old and born in 1923. Do you guys remember Uncle Billy or Uncle Joe (my Dad) Aunt Phyl, Aunt Marion or Uncle Sandy? BTW, does Bob have 2 sisters?

Talk to you guys soon.

Ciao,

Mike
