As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

so my sicilian friends here in my little town in NY yell at me... because I don't make "ZUCU" i make "SZUKO" (i'm spelling it as you would hear it.)

my family is from Caserta...am i wrong?

should I be smacked...and can i continue with my sauce!?

Dear Country cousin the word is SUGO which translates as Juice but in truth has become an alternate word for tomato sauce which translates in Italian to salsa. But callit what you will as long as it tastes delicious. =Peter=
