Please help with 1888 Italian birth certficate

Post by TerryM »

Here is what I've come up with: Pasqualino Marasco was born 31 March 1888 in Brienza to 35 yr old Antonio Marasco son of Luigi Marasco and Antonia Felitto daughter of Vincenzo Felitto. It appears that the father's profession is "guardafili" which translates as "lineman". I don't understand what that profession would be. Also there is a long string of handwritten words after "Vincenzo" that I cannot read. If you see anything else that appears important that I may have missed please let me know. The witnesses don't appear to be relatives. Thank you for your help!

To upload a document from familysearch.org, just copy and paste the url at the top of the page

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... n747962582

The birth took place on the 29th at 10:05 a.m. (not on the 31st) in the house at #1 via Largo Croce. The fathers of both Antonio and Antonia were deceased. See the word "fu" before each of their names. Antonia was a possidente or property owner "di anni trentacinque seco lui convivente," age 35 living with him, (him) refers to her husband.

Hope this helps.

Wow! You're incredible! I would have never figured that out. Doesn't it say trentuno for the birthdate? Very interesting that both fathers were deceased.

You are right, Erudita. I see the 29th on the birth certificate. His birth must have been reported on the 31st. That means I am off a couple of days on his brother and sisters' birth certificates as well.

This is a note written to the side of Pasqualino's sister Michelina's birth certificate. She was born in 1890 but apparently something happened to her in 1909. Did she die?
