Different Mother - Perhaps Remarried??

Can anyone please assist?

I have a birth certificate of one of my relatives which shows the name of his mother as Deufemia Anna Maria. However, on the death cert. it shows the mother as Anna Maria Manzo (or something close). Can anyone provide a possible explanation? Could she have remarried? I thought that the woman always kept their maiden name through their lives?

I have added the two extracts...one from the birth and the other the death.

If on italian birthact are an mother name this name is sure; if on death act are another name(perhaps an death act of USA) well this means that the natural mother was decesead(perhaps when the child again infant) and the father re married with Anna Maria Manzo.. just an suggestion, suanj
