Re: Researching DiBlasi (San Mauro) and Merola (Centola)

Thats interesting. I know Antonia (my grandmother, "Anna") lived in Pennsylvania and is listed in a census with Sabato and Rosaria as parents. So.. it would seem that she was born out of wedlock but he apparently took her into his household? Do you happen to know if that was typically how ...

Re: Researching DiBlasi (San Mauro) and Merola (Centola)

Thank you bbfuoco.

Did you happen to see any other children born of that marriage?
Anna, or perhaps Antonia, born approx 1896-7? She emigrated to the US in 1908.

Any recommend free sites and pay sites for research?

Can anyone recommend specific websites that are useful in searching out data? Both free and pay? If I am going to pay for a service I would like to seek out the ones that are most useful.

If it helps, I am primarily focusing on ancestors who immigrated to PA in the early 1900s.

Thank you,
Ken

Re: Epifano/Mancuso/Tardio/Del Giudice Families

Biff, you posted on my forum about the Frask family. My mother, who grew up in Hazleton, knew the Frask family.. they lost a son in WW2.

Re: Researching DiBlasi (San Mauro) and Merola (Centola)

It's a bit odd because I was told that Tommaso's father's name is 'John' or perhaps 'Giovanni. Yet, according to the manifest, Mauro's father looks like it might be Giovanni and Tommaso's father looks like Giacomo.

I have to ask relatives about it.

Re: Researching DiBlasi (San Mauro) and Merola (Centola)

The 1920 census shows his brother and family.

The '42 Registration Card looks correct.

And Mauro was a brother and Aneillo most likely is as well.

Re: Researching DiBlasi (San Mauro) and Merola (Centola)

Yes, that is my grandfather, and with that posting of his registration card, I just learned of a another residence he had in Hazleton. Thank you.

And that 1930 census shows his family to date (3 more children were born after 1930)

Thank you!

Re: Researching DiBlasi (San Mauro) and Merola (Centola)

a census sheet is looked up by address?

630 Garfield Street, Hazleton is where my mother grew up. Family name is DiBlasi - later changed (for some unknown reason) to DeBlass

Re: Researching DiBlasi (San Mauro) and Merola (Centola)

Yes, this would appear to be Rosaria Merola (nee Stanziola) who was married to (Samuel or Sabato or Sabbat) Mer ola Thanks for all this great informaton - I will have to get in touch with some of my family members to try to verify all this great info. Again, a sincere thanks for your assistance.

Re: Researching DiBlasi (San Mauro) and Merola (Centola)

You are correct about the discrepancy in the birthdate.. however, they appear to be the same people. Maybe the manual handwriting could account for this.

Thank you again. This is my family.

It is difficult to go back further and delve into Italian records?

Re: Researching DiBlasi (San Mauro) and Merola (Centola)

Valarie, yes - thank you!

The Annie you mention appears to be my grandmother.

(Would you happen to know if Sabbat is some type of nickname for Samuel? ..or perhaps it's just poor spelling or ineligible penmanship)
