Re: Surname Geronime/Geronimi/Gironimi

Thanks Peter!

I have heard back from a gentleman with the surname spelling of 'Gironimi' whose ancestors came from Revo. He said that while the majority of his family uses that spelling, a few members use the 'Geronimi' spelling. It is a good example of surname modifications being made by ...

Re: Surname Geronime/Geronimi/Gironimi

I am very thankful to have found more information about my surname, but I still wonder if the surnames Gironimi and Geronimi are linked. The Gironimi spelling is common in Trento Alto Adige but not Lombardia, where 'Geronimi' is prevalent. All of the Chiavenna records had the spelling 'Geronimi ...

Re: Surname Geronimi

Yesterday I found the connection I have sought for over three years!
I have found a record linking my great-great grandfather to Italy, and I now have the original spelling of my surname. My gggrandfather was Bartolameo Gironimi of San Giacomo Filippo.

I finally found this link in an interesting ...

Re: Surname Geronimi

Hi Lyn,

It was interesting to read your post. Your grandfather's name often comes up when I am running internet searches for genealogy data, so I have learned a lot about him.

I am still working on tracking down information for my gggrandfather, whose name we now believe was Bartolomeo Geronimi ...

Re: Request for Integral Birth Act

Thank you both for your help! I think that I will ask for una copia integrale dell'atto di nascita only, since I only have the possible birth year and there are two spelling variants for both the surname and given name that I must include in my request.

Hopefully it is enough to find my ancestor's ...

Request for Integral Birth Act

Can someone please confirm that by requesting an integral birth act for an ancestor the document will include the names of the parents as well? Also, if anyone could assist me by providing the appropriate phrasing of this request in Italian, it would be very helpful.

If I am requesting an integral ...

Re: Requesting Birth Acts from San Giacomo Filippo

Hi Elizabeth,

The possible birth year is 1827, so unfortunately the birth act would not be in the LDS films.

I appreciate your reply!

Requesting Birth Acts from San Giacomo Filippo

I am working on writing a letter to the Ufficio dello Stato Civile in San Giacomo Filippo . The information that I have is my great-great grandfather's name, the name of the village he was born in (Olmo), his possible birth year (no month or date found), and possibly the first names of his father ...

Need help reading ancestor's signature

Can anyone please help me to read the first name of this signature? I know that it is some form of Bartolomeus, but I am having difficulty reading all of the letters. The first six read as 'Bartol' to me. The 7th letter looks like an 'a', followed by an 'm', not sure of the 9th letter, last letter ...

Vincenzo and Elba - thank you both very much for the information. It was very helpful!

Vincenzo, I found the ancient meaning of Bartolomeo to be very interesting as well.

Languages of Lombardia

Can anyone please tell me the languages that are spoken and written in Lombardia? Was/Is Romansh spoken in the Alpine regions? I do not know if Romansh is the correct spelling in Italian (I believe it is Romansh in English, Romansch or Romantsch in German, and Rumantsch in Switzerland, but I am not ...

Re: Surname Geronimi

Hi Pete,

Thank you for the information. I found it very interesting! I was wondering...has your surname always been spelled 'Geronimi'? I have found some data that seems to use the surname 'Gironimi' interchangeably. However, I think that surname spelling is mainly found in the Revo area. There are ...

Re: Surname Geronimi

Thank you both for the welcome and for the information.

I am not certain if Anna Lucrezia Geronimi is a relative. I did recently find out that my great-great grandfather had four sons, not two. One son died in infancy, but I have not found a date-of-death for the other son. His name was Josephus ...

Surname Geronimi/Geronime/Gironimi

I am new to this website, and hoping that someone can offer help in researching the surname Geronimi. My family spells it Geronime, however I believe that Geronimi is the original spelling.

My great-great grandfather Bartolomeus (also referenced as Barclamiu) was born in Italy (I believe in ...
