Re: Benedetta Romano
Thanks for the great lead. You guys are super!! I can see how Pontecagnano could sound close to Ponte Carna to a New York kid. My father had always told me that she was from "around Naples". I'll write to Pontecagnano and see what they can find. Thanks again, Pete

Benedetta Romano
I need help in locating the birth certificate of my grandmother, BENEDETTA ROMANO.
On the passenger manifest at her arrival, she listed "Montecorvino, Salerno" as her last place of residence. There are two Montecorvino's in Salerno. Montecorvino Ravello returned my request with a "non risulta ...

Re: Jure Sanguinis
Hi,
The way I'm reading the instructions from the LA consulate, only the documents on the "Italian side" need to be translated and have an Apostille. I understand that to be my birth and marriage certificates; my father's birth, death and marriage certificates; my grandfather's death and marriage ...

Re: Jure Sanguinis
Thanks for the advice. Your earlier comment about NYC efficiency (or lack thereof!) is coming through. Although it's hit and miss. My parent's marriage certificate made it in less than two weeks. I'm still waiting for my father's birth certificate after six weeks. Then I have to begin the Apostille ...

Re: Jure Sanguinis
From your comment, I assume that the document that I have from the NY court will be sufficient. I had also thought about leaving out the typed "Petition". Without it all the dates and names are correct.
The LA Consulate's web site seem to have a more user friendly format including forms to provide ...

Hi Jim,

Hi Jim,
Thanks for your comments. I assume that my children will have to make their own applications refering to my application for the copies of records, apostilles etc. I'm still not sure about the Chicago/LA question. I expect that my daughter who also lives in Colorado will be able to apply ...

Re: Jure Sanguinis
Thanks for your input. I will be applying by mail. I live in Colorado and the Consulate that has juristiction is in Chicago. As I get to understand the process, I realize that my son who lives in Los Angeles will probably have to apply separately through that Consulate. Do you know if Chicago could ...

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm assembling paperwork to apply. My quest is simplified by the fact that my grandparents immigrated separately and were married and lived in New york City. My father was born there before his father naturalized, married a New Yorker and lived his whole life there. The ...

Hi, I know that I qualify for Italian citizenship because my paternal grandparents were both born in Italy. If I apply and am granted that citizenship, does that qualify my adult children to apply for the same?
Thanks, Pete
Thanks, Pete

Valarie,
I've just checked the ships manifest shown in you reply. I'm pretty sure that that's him on line 23. It shows him joining a cousin named Onofrio. That was his father's name. So that might mean that the location of birth was Noci, (Bari, Puglia, Italy). That gets me a lot closer in only a ...

Valarie,
Thanks for the quick reply. I realize that Bari is a province, but I don't know how to narrow it from there. On his draft registrations in 1918 and 1942, my grandfather listed only "Italy" as his place of birth. I found him on the manifest of the ship "Italia" landing at Castel Garden on ...

In order to establish Italian citizenship, I believe that I need acertified copy of my grandfather's birth certificate. I have been told that he was born in Bari Italy on 18 July 1880. Can anyone help me confirm the exact place and date of birth and obtain a birth certificate?
