Re: Handwriting assistance

Erudita,

Thanks again. I see it now, and sua definitely makes more sense than una. It must take a lot of practice to read the old handwriting well.

Sincerely,
Johnathan

Handwriting assistance

I can read most of this line on my grandfather's atto di nascita, but I cannot read those last three words. So far, I have "Antonina Corteiosi fu Antonino una moglie donna di casa..." Can anyone else read what comes after "donna di casa"?

Re: Corteiosi/La Corte/La Corteiosi

Dear mmogno,

You are amazing. I was only focused on verifying the spelling of my great-grandmother's name, but you have given me and my family so much more. You have documented my family remaining in the same town for nearly 300 years!

Now, I am curious about the change from Iosi to Josi as we ...

Re: Corteiosi/La Corte/La Corteiosi

Many thanks to Tessa78 and to mmogno! In only one day, you took my family back two generations and many decades. I really appreciate the linked documents. You found them so fast. Are they indexed somewhere, or did you look through the records page by page?

I do have some trouble understanding the ...

Corteiosi/La Corte/La Corteiosi

Does anyone have any insight into these surname/cognome variations? Certainly, people's names were frequently spelled different ways at different times, but I am wondering if there is a "correct" spelling. Does the -iosi ending have any significance in late 19th century Sicily? Also, if anyone has ...

Italian Military Uniform

A cousin found the attached postcard in a collection of family photos. We are unsure if the photo belonged to our Anglo-Germanic grandmother or to our Sicilian grandfather. Can anyone verify whether or not this is an Italian Army uniform? I would guess that he picture is between 100 and 130 years ...

Re: The Missing Favazza

Ciao, Salvatore! I am very happy to hear from you. Thank you so much for writing in this forum. I am confident that your father is my first cousin. Tell him that he has 14 more first cousins living in the United States right now, and there are even more including our children and grandchildren ...

Re: The Missing Favazza

JudyG841,

Amazing! Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was hoping for when I posted the original thread almost five years ago. Thanks to other responders leading me toward some immigration and naturalization records, I have found a few extra details in the last several years; however, this is ...

Re: The Missing Favazza

suanj,

Why do you say that Luigi Favazza and Rosa di Gerlando (Thanks for the name transcription!) married between 1908 and 1909? The 1902 manifest has an M in the "Married or Single" column.

As for the LDS records, I also struck out with the Bisacquino church records, but thought that maybe my ...

Re: The Missing Favazza

suanj,

I am sorry that I did not respond to your post. My life became very crazy about that time. Thank you very much for the information you supplied. I am surprised that you were able to link these individuals together as siblings so quickly.

Here are some more details that I have found in the ...

Sorry for the confusion. My grandfather was Louis Jasay. He claimed Tony Favazza of New York as his brother.

Re: The Missing Favazza

Thank you, Peter. If the census and Social Security information that I have reference the correct Anthony/Antonio/Tony Favazza, then he immigrated into the United States via New York in 1921. He worked as a shoemaker there for the state (prison?), and he died in NYC in 1978. It must have been after ...

The Missing Favazza

Is anyone missing a Favazza in their family tree?

I might be able to find your man if you can help me find everybody else. Let me explain...

My grandfather is quite a conundrum. He had many stories, but he seldom told the same one twice. Unfortunately, I never met him. He died 25 years before I ...
