Re: Murder circumstances

I'm sorry I forgot to clarify that--it was in the U.S.--in a town called Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. I've tried looking for newspaper articles both at ancestry.com and another newspaper site. I even tried looking to see if I could find a will--he was supposed to have been married--with no luck. From ...

Murder circumstances

How do I go about learning the circumstances of a murder? I had heard my husband's great uncle was murdered. I ordered his death certificate and it indicates he was killed--"Skull crushed by a sharp instrument. 3 bullet holes in right cheek. 1 bullet hole through right leg into left," and "homicidal ...

Re: Sicilian illiteracy and learning the English language

I was going by what I had proof of, but I had thought family members had also indicated he could speak English before coming over. You have a good point, though. I will quiz family members again, and more thouroughly. Thanks.

Sicilian illiteracy and learning the English language

My husband's grandfather seems to have know the English language before coming to the United States (according to the censuses). My question is, considering the social and economic status of Sicily at the time he immigrated (1902), how would he have learned English--what are some ways that a ...

Re: Street or neighborhood? (Trabia)

Thanks to you both! One more question--in regards to Trabia. My great grandfather's birth document shows he was born in Trabia, but it also shows the "distretto" as what looks to be "Termini." I know Termini Imerese is a town east (I believe) from Trabia. Did it used to be considered part of Trabia ...

Street or neighborhood? (Trabia)

On several birth documents for my grandmother's side of the family, it shows they were born in Trabia, Via Battaglia. Is Battaglia an actual street in Trabia, or is it more like a neighborhood? I tried to find it on Google maps, but it just puts the marker in the long strip north of where it shows ...

Re: Help needed deciphering birth document

Thanks for the help. In a prior suggestion somebody suggested using Photobucket, so I always have. I didn't realize you couldn't enlarge the document in Photobucket? I know it helps to enlarge. I enlarge, and edit all the time trying to find what is easier to read/make out. I will take your ...
