Last year I had the opportunity to visit the hometown of my ancestors in Tufara (which is in Campobasso).
I was told that there were no town records prior to 1800. I asked about the church records and was told that they were destroyed in a fire. I never actually went to the church to double check ...

Re: Documentary Film
I recall watching an interview where Al Pacino says "The Tree of Wooden Clogs" was one of his favorites.
On Turner Classic Movies I've seen "Riso amaro" (1949) with Vittorio Gassman and Silvana Mangano. It was about women rice workers in Northern Italy (Vercelli,Piedmont). I really enjoyed it.

Hello, sorry for the delayed reply!
I did purchase an International Drivers License through AAA. We had a several hour drive from Rome so I wanted to cover all the bases. Basically the license has things like "Name" "Date of Birth" "Country" translated into several different languages with your ...

Re: Celenza Valfortore
My ancestors were from Tufara, which is just a short drive from Celenza. When I was there I met a man who told me I could follow him to the cemetery. He ended up being a property manager, had the keys to the office, and looked through some books to help me. He showed me his father's grave, and come ...

Re: Celenza Valfortore
Yes that seems like it would be a good idea. Having a car from the start suited our needs at the time. I almost went that route though. I think the website is Trenitalia.com.
I drove to Campobasso when I was there. Can't remember for sure, but I think it was like a half hour or so drive from ...

Re: Celenza Valfortore
Yes, at Fiumicino Airport in Rome I rented a car (I think it was with Auto Europa) and drove about 3 hours or so to Celenza. The road into town was winding, and goes higher and higher up the mountain.
Once we were in a town we didn't necessarily need the car (plus driving on the small narrow roads ...

You're going to have a great time!
I stayed at the Relais San Pietro in Celenza Valfortore while visiting my ancestor's birth places (Tufara, San Marco La Catola, Riccia). It was an amazing experience!

Re: Google News Archive R.I.P.
A while back in these newspapers I found 3 pictures of my great grandfather and his bowling team. It is unfortunate the thought of not being able to browse through the archives!

Re: Immigration visa number helpful for research?
Thank you for your reply and insight. It seems what I thought was the "Immigration visa number" is actually a DOS (Department of State) visa number and not the USCIS issued number which I would need. So I would have to request an Index search to get the number, then file a seperate request to obtain ...

Immigration visa number helpful for research?
On a ship manifest for my Great Great Grandfather, it lists an Immigration Visa number #1272 issued at Naples on 11/17/1925. Is there any way to obtain any genealogical information from this? Maybe a photo
? If so how would I, and what information might I expect to get?
Thanks

Thanks

I was able to locate birth records of my g-g-grandfathers siblings.

Re: Need help translating marriage records
Great job! I am amazed to see that Pasquale was previously married to Maddalena Spina. Very interesting! Another path for me to research.
I am trying to make out the name of Pasquale's mother. On his death certificate it lists his mother's name only as "Rose". This is a complete guess, but do you ...
