Re: Pignanelli
Not sure. I have very limited information about my Pignanelli ancestors. I know they came from Calabria, either Caccuri or San Giovanni in Fiore, and settled in WV. At some point they started going by Pinion instead of Pignanelli. Where are your ancestors from?

Re: Dangoia
Sounds good! I can't wait to hear! And LOL about Antonia chasing the kids with a broom. I have one in my family that used to throw shoes at the kids. I've always said that the NFL should draft old Italian women as quarterbacks. If they are half as accurate and hard with a football as they are with a ...

Re: Dangoia
Thanks Dianna! In addition to Theresa and Carmina, my research suggests that Pasquale, Rosina and Lucia were also siblings of Rocco. I'm excited to hear what your mom has to say!

Re: Dangoia
Hi Dianna! I think we may be related. My great grandparents were Giuseppe Dangoia and Maddalena Laurenzana. Giuseppe was the son of Angelo D'Angoia and Giulia Pascubcca (I'm spelling it wrong, I'm sure). Maddalena was the daughter of Maurizio Laurenzana and Filomena Montano. I believe your great ...

Re: Pignanelli
Hi! It's me again. Here's the death certificate that shows Antonio's mother as Filomena Pinion. http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=1249616&Type=Death The informant is listed as Clara Cavallo. I spoke to my mom again, and she remembers Nellie's brother James going by Jimmy. She also said ...

Re: Pignanelli
Hi! This is so exciting! I'm pretty sure that your great great grandmother Clara was the sister of my great grandmother Mary (Maria). My information is that Filomena Pignanelli, widow of Antonio Olivito, immgrated to the US with their 4 children (Maria, Francesco, Antonio, and Clarice). On the ...

Re: A wonderful book on Caccuri
Thanks Donna! I'm definitely going to get this book. A number of my relatives (surnames Falbo, Olivito, Pignanelli, Secreto) lived in Caccuri before immigrating to WV, and I am very interested in learning more about their area of origin.

Re: Pignanelli
I went back and looked at all of the information that I had on this. I think it's very possible that the Clara that married Pasco Covallo is my Clara. When I reviewed the 1910 census that was so helpfully posted here, one of the boarders living with the family was a Pasquale Covall, a single 20 year ...

Re: Dangoia
It seems like a lot of the italian families were intertwined like that, with brothers and sisters from one family marrying brothers and sisters from another one. Do you know if Pasquale's family stayed in the Chicago area? Also, what was Rose's married name? Did she and her family stay in Chicago ...

Thanks Andy! Do you have any idea who Vincenzo's parents were? I'm trying to determine if he was my great grandfather's brother or uncle.
Thanks again, and it's nice to "meet" you!

Re: Dangoia
Thanks again! Cirigliano is fairly small, so hopefully it will not be too difficult to find out the information.
