As for the communication, I had to send them...

Truly amazing to think about it, and the timing for this to line up perfectly, like it did.
Surprisingly enough, from start to finish was 8 months....I looking at EllisIsland.org and officially started this process on October 26, 2010.

^ johnny's spot on....good luck with it. Prob best to try and wait out a move until after. If its dire that you have to move, going to be tough because of the proof of residence requirements.

Re: NYC success!!!
Newark required me to get my Italian documents back from the Comune before making the appointment to get my passport. This was done in April, and my appointment was just today.
45-60 minutes later, I walked out with my Italian passport!

Where did you get your EU passport photos from?
I've heard that the Newark Consulate has a machine but sometimes doesn't work, so i'd rather be prepared and bring my own with me. Where did everybody else get theirs done? Standard US Photos are 2X2 but it seems like EU is 3.5X4.5?
Any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it!!

Re: Lovin' Napoli - obtaining your own estratto di nascita
I don't know if this helps but I sent out, via snail mail, to Catania, Sicily requesting my birth record about two weeks ago and got it back yesterday morning. I think it is worth a shot to send the letter and see what happens.
