Re: Hospital in Via Laterano, Rome in 1890s?

Hi Pit, Apologies for the delayed reply. Thank you for the reading suggestion...I downloaded it and found it very interesting and noted that they author made mention of the maternity clinic and the Brefotofrio. I plan to read it through again. The photos are amazing...thank you. -- Mary

Re: Hospital in Via Laterano, Rome in 1890s?

Hi Pit, This is in response to your post from April 10th: Re:#1: Thank you for the link w/ photos. I believe this is the hospital that I refer to as ”L’ospedale delle Donne.” When Anne (the genealogy researcher who was helping me) and I visited, the porta on the right wasn’t open so we didn’t have a...

Re: Hospital in Via Laterano, Rome in 1890s?

Hello vale1303, Thanks for your reply. I will do a google search on "delle celate" and Francesca Darima. Since posting these questions in 2013, I've been to Rome a couple of times looking for info. One of those times, I met up with the genealogist who had been helping me track down info on...

Re: Hospital in Via Laterano, Rome in 1890s?

Hi Pippo, Thank you for your reply! :D Today I found references & photos of the Ospedale delle Donne al Laterano which sounds like it functioned as the maternity department of the Ospedale del Salvatore located nearby. Unfortunately, I have not yet found any historical/sociological information a...

Hospital in Via Laterano, Rome in 1890s?

Please help. I'm looking for information that might give me more information about abandoned babies in Italy during the late 1800s. The persistent efforts of Ann Tatangelo from Angel Research ( http://angelresearch.wordpress.com ) for the last year confirmed that my maternal GM was at the Brefotrofi...

Re: Italian Civil Code: 1928-1932

Yes, better late... :D Article 755 definitely makes sense in the context and is consistent with how the lawyer describes the division of property in the 1932 letter. I understand degrees of kinship, thanks for asking. Thank you again for all of your help, Pippo...My family and I are very grateful to...

Re: Italian Civil Code: 1928-1932

Pippo, Thanks so much for your response...I thought that you forgot about me :) Last night I finally found the Civil Code of 1865 by doing a Google search using Codice Civile 1865...ended up on Google Books...just as you did. You are correct, the letter mentions Articles 716 (not 715) and 755...howe...

Re: Need Help Tranlating Letter from 1932

Thank you, Ann! Italian Land Finder is where I found mention of the centralized db. I'm interested in finding out the address of the little house on Vico Bianco and seeing if the house still exists or was removed. I'll contact the people at that site and see what they suggest. Thanks again.

Re: Need Help Translating Letter from 1932

Sale documents would be on file in the archives of the 'notaio' not in the Comune. They would know who sold and who bought but not the details that would be on the purchase document. Thanks for the info, Ann. So, the notaio archives for property records would be kept at the province level in Frosin...

Re: Need Help Translating Letter from 1932

Pippo, Thank you, thank you, thank you! The puzzle pieces are coming together. We now seem to have confirmation that my GM was "taken in" by the Carnevale family, and not officially adopted by them. It is also interesting that the letter says that my GM was could claim compensation for wor...

Re: Italian Civil Code: 1928-1932

That's excellent news, Pippo. From my search, I was able to determine that there was the Italian Civil Code of 1865 and that a new code was written in 1942 that remains in use today. I couldn't find anything in between those years, and was not certain if I was missing something...you have now confir...

Re: Italian Civil Code: 1928-1932

Thank you for your reply, Carmine. I too understand that legal adoptions were very rare back then...I have questions on that as well...but, for now I'm trying to look at family legend vs. what would have been allowed by code if my GM had actually been adopted.

Italian Civil Code: 1928-1932

Laws about rights of adopted children changed a lot in the years in Italy and you refer to something that happened more than 80 years ago...If you just want to know who was right then you should find the Civil Code used in 1930. I believe adopted children didn't have same rights as blood relatives....

Re: Need Help Translating Letter from 1932

Pippo, Yes, I did know that Giovanni was married. You make a good point about questioning who the letter was intended for…I assumed that the letter was written to my GF since it was one of 3 that he saved along with a few other papers from his service in the Italian Army. Here is the link to the sec...
