How to Contact Houston Consulate
I have been trying to contact the Houston consulate with no luck. The phone system seems broken. They list numbers to press for different services but none of them work. Typing 0 gets you to a number where you can hold for leave a message. The hold lasts forever and if you try to leave a message it ...

Re: Atto di Espatrio
Thanks for the link, when I searched earlier under Atto di Espatrio, very little came up. This seems like the most relevant material from that thread:
John Philip Colletta answered my query in his book: Finding Italian Roots: The Complete Guide for Americans. I quote pages 77-78:

Re: Atto di Espatrio
From what I have found out, the document was used when someone who was not one of the parents wanted to take a child out of the country. So in this case, her uncle wanted to take her to the United States and so he needed an Atto di Espatrio so that he could both leave with her and disembark in the U ...

Atto di Espatrio
Folks,
I have in an Emergency Passport Application filed with the U.S. Embassy in Palermo in 1919, mention of an 'Atto di Espatrio.' I have never requested one. I was hoping somebody could fill me on two basic details: 1) where would you go to request a copy of that record? (Can you even request it ...

Re: Strategies for Death Records
The death has occured outside of the range for which familysearch has records, meaning that the death is more recent than 1910. I guess that means I either have to visit or hire somebody. Its more fun finding it on your own!

Re: Strategies for Death Records
That is a very good point indeed! I think I can find the marriage records from all the children, so that would be a great start.
And yes, the locale is tough. Its totally possible that an infirm elderly person would go to live with the children in a nearby commune...in which case I might never ...

Strategies for Death Records
Folks,
I have had a pretty good time finding birth records in Sicily (Palermo & Roccamena). People tend to write their birth date on things later in life, which leaves a trail to follow backwards (even if a surprising number of people are not listed as having been born on their record on the date ...
