Re: Opinions/insight - death records and suicide (early 1900's)

It my experience that civil records do not specify reason for death and at least in one case that I recall the birth certificate indicated the date and place of death of a relative who had moved. Do, my thinking that the death of a person is transmitted to the town of origin. The question indicates ...

Re: Totally Baffled

Still baffled. For great uncle Antonio Ferrazzano I now have a birth record (thank you) but there seems to be no record of marriage or death in Sessa Cilento. I found an Antonio, 15 yars old, emigrating to the US in 1897, but the ship recod indicates that he was from Sessa Aurunca, even though he ...

Re: Surname

I looked at the list published by Erudits and found two possibilities
Mazzucca Emma, daughter of Antonio and Paolina Gervasio, record 184
Mazzucca Giuseppina, daughter of Pasquale and Maria Donata Pontolillo, record 109

Mazzucca sounds very much like Minsucchia and the spelling may be the result of ...

Re: Totally Baffled

Thank You, MMogno and Tessa78. Sincerely, Much obliged!
The birth records of Luigi Antonio, Pietro Paolo (my grandfather), and Maria Lucia I had them but, somehow, I missed that of Antonio. Now I have it. THANK YOU.
The question that I now have, is Antonio the same Anthony in the war registration ...

Re: Order of Names

The last name is definitely Puma because this is shown first in the record below and in the index. The first name is Croce, unusual, but logical. I have seen other records of males with three names, the second being Maria. The name is unusual? Look at the name of the mother, Salvatrice, feminine ...

Totally Baffled

A few years ago, looking at the Ellis Island records I discovered that my grandfather, Pietro Ferrazzano had come to the US twice, once in 1901 (last name spelled Ferazzano, one R) with his wife Giuseppa, and once by himself in 1910 (last name spelled correctly). In the 1901 record it is stated that ...

Re: Searching for records of biological grandfather Vezio Benini

Mike,
I checked the white pages (paginebianche.it) for Montecatini Terme and found 14 Benini with phone number and address in Montecatini and nearby towns.
Have you considered going through that route to find the whereabouts of your grandfather? Vezio is not a common name and if they heard of him ...

Re: Martorino

I think that PippoM found the correct documents.
Josie is short for Josephine and the difference in spellings maybe due to an English person, unfamiliar with Italian, who wrote the names phonetically. For instance, Celeste is a relatively uncommon in Italy, but both documents have it, with the ...

Thanks for the article, Tessa. Very interesting reading. Still surprising, however, that the nicknames, became official in Civil documents.

Marcel,
you are in the right place. The experts here are magicians and can help you. Meanwhile, I see that both the Mangione and Sciangula last names are still active in Raffadali. So, I am sure that you have lots of cousins there. Good Luck

Re: Italian using two last names from Agrigento / Maurici-Lino

Based on the tree you copied your info from, there is no question in my mind that the last name of Ciro, Filippo and Ignazio is Lino. The addition of Maurici is not typical in Italy, but possible (?). In the case of Ciro, somehow he picked up his mother's last name but, as with Spanish tradition ...
